Brighton is fast becoming an ideal place to visit if you are a coffee lover and here is another option to tempt you into starting your day with a cup of the black stuff; Coffee@33.

The last year has seen the coffee scene in Brighton blossom. Although it's early, there are signs of something that could rival what can be found in San Francisco. Still not quite what Paris has to offer yet but chic environments to sup on a cup of old Joe can be found at every turn. Small independent coffee shops are opening up and performing strongly in the face of big brand dominance and Coffee@33 is the latest example of this.

Though minimalist in decor this café is far from basic with superb coffee (did I read Monmouth?), friendly staff and mouth watering counter delights.  The latte I tried had a liquorice undertone and was presented like a Michelin star meal.  The price for this large beverage was also a very reasonable £2.50 and shows that they can more than match the big boys without sacrificing quality.

The sweet and savoury goods available were also on the verge of having me salivate onto the counter while ordering.  Cakes, muffins, rolls, huge croissants and a number of other delectable delights made me wish that I had a bigger belly to try them all.  At least it gives me another reason to go back!

Like 'Ground' in Kemp Town, Coffee@33 is a high recommendation and hopefully shows what the future holds for the coffee in the City. Also like Ground it offers a more bohemian experience than found at the pre-packaged coffee chains.  I think that this could well become my new pre-pre breakfast haunt.
